Located in a dominant position above the beach of Praia do Abano, the Forte do Guincho boasts an excellent view over the ocean and the surrounding beaches.
It was built in about 1642 and was part of the series of fortresses that formed a defensive line on the coast of Cascais built during the post-Restoration period.
The fortress is rectangular in plan and is divided into two distinct spaces, the smaller on the landward side, which was where the accommodation was arranged around a patio, and another larger space, the battery platform, where seven artillery pieces would have been located to begin with.
The fortress is at present unoccupied.
