The Romanesque Benedictine monastery was founded in the 12th century. The main chapel and the cloister are from the 17th century.

Located at the bottom of a valley and surrounded by several farms characteristic of the northern region of the country, the monastery has one of the most beautiful Portuguese medieval towers and is on the cultural itinerary of the Romanesque Route

With exception of the church and the tower, the remaining areas are vacant.
