This ancient building is one of the nineteen that have integrated the Estância Sanatorial do Caramulo, founded in 1921 by the doctor Jerónimo Lacerda. 

It was built at the end of the 1930s and was a third-class sanatorium created to treat children and young people with tuberculosis.
